THE HOUSE of Representatives has approved on third and final reading a bill seeking to rename the Samar National Pilot Opportunity School of Agriculture (SNPOSA) in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar, as the San Policarpo National High School of Agriculture (SPNSA).

House Bill No. 9565 was principally authored by Eastern Samar Lone District Representative Christopher Sheen Gonzales, with 4Ps Party-list Representative Marcelino “Nonoy” Libanan as co-author.

Gonzales said the proposed renaming reflects the school’s transformation into a full-fledged secondary education institution offering the complete K to 12 program under the Department of Education.

“The new name recognizes what the school has become over the years. It better reflects its present role in providing quality secondary education and preparing young people for the future,” Gonzales said.

The lawmaker noted that while the school was initially established with a focus on agricultural education, its academic programs have since expanded to address the evolving needs of students and the community.

He said the measure also recognizes the school’s continued growth and the contributions of its teachers, school officials, parents, local government, and other stakeholders in strengthening public education in San Policarpo.

Gonzales added that the proposed renaming is expected to foster greater community pride and support the school’s mission of providing accessible, inclusive, and quality education to learners in the coastal municipality.

Under House Bill No. 9565, only the school’s name will be changed. Its existing assets, personnel, records, rights, liabilities, and authorized positions will remain intact and will be transferred to the San Policarpo National High School of Agriculture.
