THE SENATE has formally recognized the bravery of 15-year-old Chris Lorenz Fabian by adopting Senate Resolution No. 473, honoring his heroism and paying tribute to the three students who died in the tragic mass shooting at Tacloban National High School on June 22.

Chris was among the three students killed after two of his classmates allegedly opened fire inside the school campus.

The resolution also expressed the Senate’s deepest condolences to the families of Chris, Joyancee Separa, and Ayessa Nicole Dazo, whose lives were cut short in the senseless attack.

During the plenary session, Senator Robinhood Padilla conveyed the Senate’s sympathy to the bereaved families while recognizing the courage shown by the three victims, particularly Chris, whose actions helped protect his classmates during the attack.

Based on accounts presented during the session, Chris shielded his classmates by holding the classroom door shut and using his body to prevent the gunman from entering the room.

He was hit by gunfire while trying to stop the attacker from reaching the students inside.

Meanwhile, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for authorities to further strengthen school security measures, improve emergency response protocols, expand guidance and counseling services, and enhance mental health programs to ensure that schools remain safe environments for learners.

Aside from adopting the resolution, the Senate also approved the provision of financial assistance to the families of the three victims.

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian instructed the Senate Secretary to facilitate the release of assistance from Senate funds.
