SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go has called for stricter security measures in schools and a more effective emergency medical response system following the fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old student inside Las Piñas National High School.

Go said authorities must conduct a thorough investigation into how a balisong or butterfly knife was brought inside the school premises despite existing security measures and determine whether there were lapses in the enforcement of campus safety protocols.

Through his team, the senator also provided financial assistance to the victim’s family to help with immediate needs and funeral expenses while extending his condolences over the tragic incident.

Go stressed that schools must remain safe spaces for students and emphasized the need to identify weaknesses in security procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He cited previous cases of violence in schools, including the deadly shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, the attack on a teacher at Elizalde National High School in Davao de Oro, and online threats against schools in General Santos City, saying these incidents underscore the need to strengthen campus security nationwide.

To improve school safety, Go urged the government to consider the deployment of uniformed personnel, including police officers, in schools where necessary.

He also encouraged schools to strengthen programs promoting discipline, peaceful conflict resolution, and responsible behavior among students.

The senator likewise raised concerns over reports that no school nurse was immediately available to provide first aid to the stabbing victim, stressing the importance of having trained health personnel ready to respond during emergencies.

According to Go, every second counts in medical emergencies, and schools should have qualified healthcare workers who can provide immediate assistance while facilitating the victim’s prompt transfer to a medical facility.

He urged the Department of Education, local government units, and school administrators to review and improve their existing security measures and emergency medical response systems.

Go also called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident to ensure accountability while respecting laws protecting minors.

He said that while the victim’s life can no longer be brought back, concrete reforms must be implemented to prevent similar tragedies from occurring again.
