SENATOR VOWS NO TEACHER WILL RETIRE AT ENTRY-LEVEL RANK UNDER NEW CAREER LAW
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian assured that no public school teacher will retire holding the entry-level position of Teacher I, as expanded career opportunities in the education sector begin to take effect.
The senator made the statement as the Department of Education prepares to promote around 100,000 public school teachers and school heads this year.
Gatchalian said the planned promotions are anchored on the implementation of the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act, or Republic Act No. 12288, which aims to broaden career pathways in both teaching and school administration.
The law institutionalizes a structured career progression system and introduces new teaching and leadership positions, including Teacher IV to Teacher VII, Master Teacher V to Master Teacher VI, and School Principal V.
According to Gatchalian, these reforms are designed to provide teachers with clearer opportunities for professional growth and advancement throughout their careers.
“Ngayong mas marami nang oportunidad para sa pag-angat ng karera ng ating mga guro, mas matutulungan natin silang umunlad at magtagumpay sa kanilang propesyon. Mahalagang itaguyod natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga guro lalo na’t sila ang may pinakamahalagang papel sa edukasyon ng ating mga kabataan,” he said.
The law also directs the Department of Education to establish clear and transparent guidelines for the promotion of teachers and school leaders, ensuring a more efficient and equitable system.
The measure underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the teaching profession and recognizing the vital role of educators in shaping the nation’s future.
