SENATOR SEEKS TO REVISE UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE CHARTER

/ 2 January 2026

SENATOR Loren Legarda is pushing for a measure to strengthen the University of Antique.

Legarda’s Senate Bill 1601, or the proposed Revised University of Antique Charter, seeks to expand the university’s curricular offerings and the composition of its governing board.

The senator explained that the university’s current charter, while foundational, no longer fully reflects the needs and aspirations of its growing academic community.

Legarda said emerging disciplines in health, engineering, information technology, agriculture, climate resilience, governance, and the creative and cultural sectors require a modernized framework that allows UA to develop programs aligned with regional and national priorities.

The measure proposes a revised charter that enhances the university’s capacity to deliver quality, accessible, and future-ready education. It strengthens academic authority, clarifies governance structures, and grants UA the flexibility to expand curricular offerings in priority and emerging fields.
