SOLON SEEKS TO ESTABLISH NATIONAL EDUCATION COMMISSION
MANILA Teachers Party-list Rep. Nina Francesca Lacson is pushing for a measure creating an independent policy-making, quality-assessing, research, and regulatory body for the education system in the Philippines.
In her House Bill 5322, Lacson seeks to establish a National Education Commission.
The lawmaker explained that governance problems within the education system persist due to the lack of inter-agency coordination among key stakeholders and offices.
She added that streamlining educational policies, guidelines, and standards to ensure the delivery of quality education in all schools and at all levels remains a challenge.
The proposed measure aims to bridge the governance and policy-making frameworks of basic education, higher education, and technical-vocational education. It will set general directions for educational policies, quality standards, guidelines, and the supervision of learning outcomes across the entire education system.
By clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of different education agencies and offices, Lacson said, the goals and objectives outlined in the national qualifications framework will be better achieved.
