UE JOINS CALLS FOR JUSTICE, ACCOUNTABILITY AMID CORRUPTION ALLEGATIONS
THE UNIVERSITY of the East has joined the growing call for truth, justice, and accountability amid emerging allegations of systemic corruption in the country.
In a statement, UE President and Chief Academic Officer Zosimo M. Battad reaffirmed the University’s “resolute and unequivocal stance” against misconduct that erodes public trust and harms the lives of ordinary Filipinos.
“The University of the East champions and upholds the core values of integrity, accountability, and transparency,” the statement read. “There should be no place in society for officials who break the law or for citizens who misuse the people’s hard-earned taxes for wanton enrichment.”
UE stressed that ongoing revelations of unethical behavior must be met with institutional reform, civic engagement, and cultural change to pave the way for genuine accountability. Such measures, it said, are essential to heal the long-standing wounds corruption has inflicted on millions of Filipinos struggling to make ends meet.
The University also thanked its community members for actively engaging in the national discourse.
“Such critical thinking, along with their advocacy for their rights, is as admirable as it is invaluable,” Battad said.
While acknowledging the difficult road ahead, the UE president vowed to continue promoting a culture of honesty and accountability.
He emphasized that solutions must be pursued through “peaceful and orderly means,” condemning any action that could lead to harm or violence.
“Not only do we join the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of voices seeking answers to our rightful questions and supreme justice for any wrongdoing, no matter the scale or enormity—we also commit to doing our part in helping shape a better Philippines,” UE declared.
