SENATOR URGES ACCOUNTABILITY IN ANTIQUE CHEMICAL EXPOSURE INCIDENT AFFECTING 250 STUDENTS

/ 5 July 2025

SENATOR Bam Aquino is calling for a full investigation into the recent chemical exposure incident in Antique, which has affected more than 250 students and raised concerns about student safety and government preparedness.

“We call on concerned government agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and demand accountability for this incident,” Aquino said.

“Kailangang may managot sa nangyaring ito,” he added.

The senator emphasized the need for immediate government action, urging the Department of Health to provide urgent and adequate medical assistance to Antique.

“Hinihiling din natin sa Department of Health na magpaabot ng agaran at sapat na tulong sa lalawigan ng Antique para matugunan ang pangangailangang pangkalusugan ng mga naapektuhang estudyante,” he added.

Aquino also criticized the country’s education system for not providing enough protection and care for students, especially in the face of ongoing crises.

He reiterated the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the youth.

“We always say that the youth are the hope of the nation — but are we really doing enough to care for them?” Aquino asked.

“In the middle of our education crisis, we must give our youth the attention, protection, and support they deserve,” the senator stressed.

Details about the cause of the chemical exposure and the current condition of the affected students are still emerging.

Local authorities and emergency response teams are reportedly conducting cleanup and containment efforts, while health officials continue to monitor the victims.
