DEPED EYES OVERTIME PAY FOR TEACHERS
EDUCATION Secretary Sonny Angara announced that the Department of Education is studying the possibility of providing overtime pay for teachers.
Angara, however, noted that current law permits teachers to teach only up to six hours per day.
For School Year 2025–2026, DepEd has opened 20,000 new teaching positions, as approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
In addition, the department has created 10,000 administrative officer positions to take over non-teaching tasks.
According to Angara, increasing administrative support will ease the burden on teachers by freeing them from clerical and school-related tasks.
“Para si teacher, hindi na ‘yung pag-aayos ng printer o pagluluto ng pagkain… may katulong na si teacher,” Angara explained.
