IN A THRILLING UAAP women’s volleyball match before 6,539 fans at the Mall of Asia Arena, the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses triumphed over De La Salle Lady Spikers, 25-12, 22-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13.

Angge Poyos led the way with 28 points, including 3 blocks, 16 digs, and 6 receptions. Reg Jurado added 17 points, while Cassie Carballo contributed 22 excellent sets and 6 digs.

With the win, UST improved to 2-1, joining University of the Philippines and Adamson in second place.

La Salle, now 1-2, has lost four consecutive matches to the Tigresses since last season.

Adamson bounced back from a loss with a commanding 25-20, 25-15, 25-12 win over University of the East.  Rookie Shai Nitura scored 18 points, while Frances Mordi added 11.

In the men’s division, UST’s Popoy Colinares led his team to a 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 victory over La Salle, notching 17 points with 11 attacks and 5 blocks.

This marked UST’s second consecutive win, bringing them into a tie with National University and Ateneo at 2-1.

Adamson’s men ended their two-match skid with a 27-29, 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 win over University of the East, earning their first victory of the season.

Colinares’ solid performance was backed by JJ Macam’s 10 points and Jayrack Dela Noche’s 12. Adamson now sits at 1-2, while the Red Warriors remain winless.
