ARMY, TUP SHOWCASE RESEARCH PROTOTYPES WITH POTENTIAL MILITARY USE
THE PHILIPPINE Army, through the office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs (OG9), in collaboration with the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Training Committee, showcased research and development prototypes with potential military applications during the ROTC Exhibit at the TUP Main Campus in Ermita, Manila, from December 18 to 21, 2024.
This exhibit was one of the highlights of TUP’s 123rd Founding Anniversary celebration.
According to Col. Joey B. Baybayan (MNSA) PA, TUP-ROTC Commandant, the event emphasized the ROTC students’ role in research and development that could contribute to the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Self-Reliant Defense Posture.
It was noted that on October 8, Republic Act No. 12024, known as the “Self-Reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Act,” was signed into law. This act facilitates domestic and foreign collaborations and encourages active participation by universities and higher learning institutions in advancing science-based industrialization. It also provides research grants and development subsidies to participants.
Among the products on display were the Line Tracing Robot, which could be used for autonomous navigation, reconnaissance, and logistics; The Physics World: A Simulation-Based Learning for Projectile Motion, an interactive platform designed to enhance the understanding of projectile motion, crucial for artillery and weapons training; and the Battle Box Robot Gladiator, which features camouflage capabilities and is designed for combat simulation, combat tracking, and reconnaissance.
According to the TUP-ROTC Training Committee, the exhibit attracted significant interest from TUP students, faculty, and staff. The event also sparked increased awareness of the ROTC’s role in innovation and research and development.
