SENATOR PRODS PROF CABALZA TO FILE CHARGES ON ALLEGED DEGREE FOR SALE
SENATE Committee on Higher Education Chairman Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero on Thursday urged UP Professor Chester Cabalza to file a formal complaint before the Commission on Higher Education on his allegation of degree for sale.
Escudero said the complaint will be the basis for CHED to issue a show-cause order against universities allegedly involved in degree for sale.
The senator said it is important to have a complaint that the CHED can act on.
“May I suggest and urge Prof. Cabalza to file a complaint re this with CHED so that CHED can investigate this by issuing show cause orders,” he said.
“A complaint is necessary, I believe, as this is an academic freedom issue that can have a serious push back against government regulators with oversight function over tertiary schools,” the senator added.
Earlier, Cabalza divulged that foreign students, specifically Chinese students are paying up to P2 million for a degree.
