6 FILIPINO STUDENTS BAG AWARDS IN 63RD INT’L MATH OLYMPIAD

SIX Filipino students bagged awards at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad held from July 6 to 16 in Oslo, Norway.

Raphael Dylan Dalida from the Philippine Science High School main campus and Mohammad Nur Casib of PSHS-Central Mindanao campus each won a bronze medal.

On the other hand, Sarji Elijah Bona of De La Salle University-Senior High School, Enrico Rolando Martinez of PSHS main campus, Rickson Caleb Tan of MGC New Life Christian Academy, and Filbert Ephraim Wu of Victory Christian International School were awarded honorable mentions.

The Philippine team was headed by Dr. Christian Paul Chan Shio of Ateneo de Manila University on behalf of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines.

Shio was joined by Hazel Joy Shi of UP Diliman as deputy leader and Russelle Guadalupe, also from UP Diliman, as trainer.

The International Mathematical Olympiad is one of the most difficult and most prestigious mathematics competitions for high school students worldwide.

This year’s edition was participated in by more than 100 countries with up to six members in each team.

Philippine Ambassador to Norway Enrico Fos congratulated the students.

“Their feat in this Math Olympiad is worthy of emulation by the other kids of their generation in the Philippines. After all, this is a math competition of the best and brightest high school math wizards worldwide,” Fos said.
