COMMISSION on Elections First Division Presiding Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that she voted to disqualify presidential candidate Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. in the coming 2022 elections.

In an interview with GMA News, Guanzon said that she revealed her decision to the media after receiving news about efforts to influence commissioners regarding the issue.

Guanzon said that she found Marcos Jr. guilty of moral turpitude for failing to file his income taxes in the 1980s.

She added that she relayed her vote to other poll commissioners as the decision has been delayed “unreasonably.”

“Parang unreasonable na ‘yung delay. Ang kutob ko talaga may nakikialam na eh…Some people are trying to influence the commissioners. ‘Yun ang ayaw ko,” Guanzon said.

“Malakas ang kutob ko based on information. ‘Tsaka ‘pag sinabi ko naman ang pangalan nila baka masyado pang maaga. Baka sa Lunes sasabihin ko ‘pag hindi pa ito lumabas,” she added.

The ruling was initially set to be released on January 17 but was delayed after Commissioner Aimee Ferolino’s lawyers contracted Covid19.

Guanzon is set to retire on February 2. She said that forces might be trying to make her vote invalidated by delaying the date of the release.

Marcos is facing multiple disqualification cases, with one already junked by the poll body’s second division.
