COMMISSION on Higher Education Chairman Prospero de Vera III admitted that funds were transferred to the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management and the Philippine International Trading Corporation for the purchase of equipment.

However, the DBM and PITC failed to procure the supplies.

He made the admission when Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon sought clarification about the fund transfers.

De Vera said funds were transferred to the PITC long before he assumed his position in CHED.

CHED has asked the PITC to return the money to the Bureau of the Treasury.

De Vera said the commission also transferred P1.1 billion to the Procurement Service of the DBM for the purchase of computers to be distributed to State Universities and Colleges.

He said the computers were not purchased because the June 30 deadline had lapsed.
