TV PERSONALITY Joseph Peter ‘Jopet’ Sison will join the Senate race next year under the banner of Aksyon Demokratiko.
Sison substituted for former Vice President Noli de Castro, who withdrew his candidacy for senator.
“The 56-year-old Sison has joined Aksyon Demokratiko and will be running as senator, replacing former Vice President Noli de Castro,” the party said in a statement.
On Wednesday, De Castro backed out from the senatorial race, saying that he will serve the people better if he will continue working in broadcasting.
Sison served as Quezon City councilor for six years.
He was also the assistant general manager of the National Housing Authority from 2001 to 2005, and the president of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation from 2006 to 2012.
In 2019, Sison ran for vice mayor in Quezon City under PDP-Laban but lost to Gian Sotto.
