ISINUSULONG ni Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Jane Elago na maibalik ang mga tinapyas na pondo ng Department of Budget and Management sa State Universities and Colleges.

Sinabi ni Elago na kailangang mapanatili ang pondo ng mga SUC upang maibigay ang dekalidad na edukasyon sa mga estudyante sa gitna ng kinakaharap na pandemya.

Sa isang resolution, sinabi ni Elago na batay sa inihaing 2022 proposed national budget, P71.19 bilyon ang inilaan para sa mga SUC na 17.17 percent na mababa kumpara sa P85.956 bilyon ngayong taon.

Sa 113 na SUC, 104 ang tinapyasan ng pondo kung saan 102 ang binawasan ang operating budget.

Sa datos, kabuuang P964.6 milyon ang tinapyas ng DBM sa Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses habang P964.6 million ang kinaltas sa Capital Outlay ng mga SUC.

“These budget cuts only contradict the policy of the state to prioritize education, amidst the worsening economic crises resulting from failed government response to Covid19 pandemic, especially during a time when even more resources are needed in order to meet the needs of students, teachers, and the whoel of the education sector,” pahayag ni Elago sa kanyang resolution.

Iginiit pa ng kongresista na mas kailangang taasan ang pondo para sa cpaital outlay and operations para sa ligtas na pagbubukas muli ng mga campus at maihatid ang true quality education.

“Higher education is an instrument of empowerment and thus contributory for national developoment. Higher education serves as public and social purpose. Contrart to current market-driven economic policies, higher education is a public good and should not be left vulnerable,” dagdag pa ni Elago.
