Diaz conquered the 55kg in the women’s weightlifting competition that paved to glory, stamping the world champion Liao Qiuyun of China.

With the 30-year-old pride of Zamboanga City’s four-straight Olympics experience, she lifted 97kg in the snatch category and 127kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 224kg.

Diaz lifted 94kg in her first snatch attempt, then set down 97kg in the second attempt. While in the clean and jerk category, she got off a strong start clearing 119 in her first attempt followed by 124 kg and 127 kg in her second and third attempt, respectively.

On the other hand, Liao got the silver medal by tallying 97kg snatch, 126 kg clean and jerk with an overall score of 223kg. And Kazakhstan’s Zulfiya Chinshanlo bagged the bronze with her 90kg snatch, 123kg clean and jerk with a total of 213kg.

Diaz has always been writing the history for the country when she also ended the 20 years drought of the country back in Rio 2016 and grabbed a silver medal.

“Mabuhay ang Pilipinas,” Diaz said while crying out loud after the announcement of her glory.
