STUDENT groups of the University of the East-Caloocan have launched an online petition against the revocation of the scholarship of some students who got failing grades last semester.

The petition aims to gather signatures to support the students’ campaign to have the school reverse its decision.

The UE Central Student Council said the petition is for those who disapprove of the change in the school’s scholarship policy.

The students complained that they were not notified beforehand.

UE President Ester Garcia earlier said that students have to follow the policies laid down by the university to keep their scholarships.

Garcia stressed that scholars must at all times meet all conditions to retain their scholarship.

The UE-CSC however said it will not rest until a pro-student response is attained, stressing that the school’s administration must exercise accountability and transparency.

“It is understood that in privatized education, these scholarships are considered a privilege. That said, as major stakeholders of the University, we strongly believe that we should, at the very least, have the right to know about and have a say in major changes, whether in policy or in its implementation,” the group said in a statement.

“Given the short notice, we must request for a waiver of this policy for the incoming semester to allow affected students dependent on the scholarships to continue their education,” it added.
