ON TO THE NEXT: JULES SAMONTE SAYS GOODBYE TO ATENEO LADY EAGLES
Despite having two years of eligibility left, Jules Samonte bid farewell to the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Saturday, September 11.
Jules Samonte has decided to wrap up her University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) journey after four great years, foregoing her senior playing years with Ateneo de Manila University.
In a social media post, the 22-year-old spiker posted pictures of her moments with the Lady Eagles along with a caption expressing her gratitude to the school.
“Seeing all the post about the UAAP has got me feeling nostalgic. Words cannot even describe how thankful and blessed I am to have played the game I love for the blue and white,” Samonte expressed.
“I am immensely grateful to Ateneo for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream and of course thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,” she continued.
After a stellar high school run with De La Salle-Zobel, Samonte initially committed to Ateneo in 2016, wherein in her first year, she was named the UAAP Season 79 Rookie of the Year honors.
In the UAAP Season 81, the 5-foot-9 Samonte delivered the championship-clinching spike for Ateneo’s third women’s volleyball championship in the finals Game 3 against the University of Santo Tomas.
She also played in the UAAP beach volleyball competition for two seasons.
Samonte was supposed to play her fourth season in the 2020 UAAP but the season was canceled after four playdates due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Now, Samonte has decided to take on new chapters in her volleyball career, most likely starting her professional run in the Premier Volleyball League.
“On to the next,” Samonte concluded in her heartfelt caption.
