TAB BALDWIN YET TO DECIDE ON STAYING AS GILAS COACH AFTER BELGRADE STINT
Gilas Pilipinas Head Coach Tab Baldwin has yet to decide whether he will remain in the position beyond the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
“I have two hats, right? You know I love coaching and I love coaching these kids. And I’m happy to do that job and as long as SBP is happy for me to do that job, then there’s a good chance I will do it,” Baldwin said.
“But when I put my hat on as a program director, I also have to be cognizant of the fact that there are great coaches out there.”
“If an opportunity arises for us to bring in a great coach that, with my experience, I believe would be an added benefit to the team, then in the best interest of this team, I would be compelled to step aside and assist, which I would also love to do,” he added.
Baldwin was the third head coach for the men’s national basketball team in the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, after Mark Dickel and Jong Uichico in the first and second window, respectively.
The Ateneo coach led the young Gilas team to back-to-back wins over South Korea and Indonesia in Group A of the Asia Cup qualifiers, booking a spot in the Olympic Qualifiers in Belgrade, Serbia.
