PSAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TIPS OFF MAY 10
THE PHILIPPINE Schools Athletics Association (PSAA) basketball tournament is set to begin on May 10 at the Jesus is Lord (JIL) College Foundation gym in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Ten teams will compete, including defending pre-season champions Philippine Christian University-Manila, JIL College Foundation, Philippine International College (PIC), U-Bix Colleges, Philippine Maritime Institute, St. Bernadeth, Bulacan State University, St. Joseph of Olongapo, Asia Pacific College, and Manuel Enverga College.
Coach Fernando Arimado, the founder of PSAA, expressed gratitude for the support of the member schools and sponsors, highlighting their role in promoting basketball development. “It’s all systems go, and we’re thankful for the trust and the dedication of everyone involved,” Arimado said during the “Usapang Sports” event at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on April 30.
Robert Dela Rosa, a former commercial league player, will serve as commissioner, with coach Danny Caballero as his deputy. Dela Rosa emphasized the importance of reliable officiating, stating that the same referees who work with the NCAA and UAAP will officiate the games.
PCU-Manila enters the tournament as the team to beat, thanks to their experience in various collegiate leagues. However, teams like PIC, led by coach Ericson Relox, are optimistic about their chances. “Our long preparation will be key to taking the title,” said Relox.
PCU coach Gualberto Garcia remains focused on the team’s mindset. “We do not consider ourselves favorites. Every team is a top competitor, so we aim to learn from every game.”
Other teams, including U-Bix Colleges, PMI, and St. Bernadeth, are ready to make their mark as well, promising an exciting competition ahead.
The PSAA basketball tournament promises thrilling action, and the race for the championship begins soon.
