PLDT FINALLY GRABS FIRST-EVER PROFESSIONAL WIN OVER PERLAS
PLDT Home Fibr finally snagged their first victory at Perlas’ expense, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21, in the 2021 PVL Open Conference on Sunday at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte.
The Power Hitters at least won’t be coming home winless as they ended their six-game losing streak that eliminated them right away from making it to the playoffs. Meanwhile, Perlas dropped to seventh place with a 1-4 slate after suffering back-to-back losses.
PLDT racked with corner attacks and defensive plays that saw the squad turning a 12-12 second-set tie to a 19-13 lead off a 7-1 run capped by a Perlas net touch.
The lead eventually blew to 7 points, 22-15, then eventually Molde ended with a spike kill off the Perlas over-reception.
Perlas attempted to extend the match in the third frame off of Nicole Tiamzon and Cherry Rose Nunag scoring consecutive hits to cut their deficit to two points, 18-20.
But, the PLDT made sure to seal the win, turning a 19-18 lead to a 25-21 finish off another Molde set-ending hit.
“Kami naman simula umpisa hinahabol namin yung confidence level namin, tapos yung mga bata naman masipag. Kaya lang neneng-nene pa yung team, eh. Pero kagandahan naman ngayon, nag-respond sila, may pinractice kasi kami kahapon,” PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb said.
“Nakakuha na kami, lalaban pa kami, may dalawang laro pa kami,” he added.
Isa Molde led the victory with 14 points off 12 attacks and two service aces, while Jorelle Singh and Chin Bases contributed with 11 markers apiece.
Alyssa Eroa was named Player of the Game honors after finishing for 22 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions while Rhea Dimaculangan delivered the brilliant plays with 24 excellent sets on top of five points.
Meanwhile, Cherry Nunag was only the player who scored with double-digits as she ended with 14 points off 11 attacks and three blocks.
Sue Roces, Heather Guino-o, and Nicole Tiamzon each chipped in with seven points.
PLDT will next face BaliPure at 3 pm on Thursday, August 5, while Perlas will head against streaking Sta. Lucia at 3 pm on Tuesday, August 3.
