PH TABLE TENNIS OLYMPIC HOPEFULS FALL SHORT OF TOKYO BERTH AT ASIAN QUALIFIERS
Four Filipino table tennis bets contending for a spot in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bid farewell to their campaign as they foundered to secure the Southeast Asian Qualification on Friday in Doha, Qatar.
Rose Jean Fabol was a step closer to booking a ticket to the Summer Olympics, however, top-seeded Thai Orawan Paranang emerged victorious as she secured her Olympic spot with six points on a perfect 3-0 record.
Moreover, Fabol finished on third with three points on a 1-2 win-loss record.
The country’s top female paddler Jannah Romero landed in second place in the women’s singles Southeast Asia group recording five points on a 2-1 slate.
Jann Mari Nayre and John Russel Misal had an early exit in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament as they failed to reach the semifinals of their respective match.
The Philippine Table Tennis Federation lauded the national team members and expressed their gratitude in a post on their official social media account.
“To Jann Nayre, John Russel Misal, Jannah Romero, RJ Fadol, thank you for all your hard work and sacrifices to prepare for the Olympic qualifiers. Kami ang saksi kung paano kayo magtraining araw-araw. Dahil sa pandemyang ito kinailangan ninyong magbubble training so nahiwalay kayo sa mga pamilya niyo dahil sa pagmanahal niyo sa table tennis at sa bayan. Please know that your PTTF Family is very, very proud of you. Keep up the good work,” the post read.
