THE 11th BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area) Friendship Games will resume in December, with Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, as the host after a six-year absence.

Scheduled from December 1 to 5, the event will feature teams from the four member nations competing in eight sports, including pencak silat, sepak takraw, archery, swimming, badminton, esports, karate, and athletics.

Originally launched in 1996 to promote cultural exchange, the games were last held in Brunei in 2018 but were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Philippines placed fourth overall in that edition, with Mindanao and Palawan contingents contributing to the medal tally.

In support of the games, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recently signed a memorandum granting travel tax exemptions for travelers from Mindanao and Palawan heading to any EAGA member, effective until June 30, 2028.

This initiative aligns with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, aiming to enhance tourism and facilitate trade across borders.
