NATURALIZED PLAYER BIENVENIDO MARAÑON RECEIVES FIRST AZKALS CALL UP FOR AFF SUZUKI CUP
Naturalized player Bienvenido Marañon is set to wear the Philippine Azkals jersey for the first time in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 which will begin on December 5 in Singapore.
Marañon bared that he was tapped to see action in the pandemic-delayed Southeast Asia’s biggest football competition which will be played under a bubble setup in the Lion City.
“I will travel in a few days to Singapore to join the team and training hard to face (the AFF Suzuki Cup) with enthusiasm,” Marañon said.
The 35-year-old striker will boost the lineup of other strikers that includes Angel Guirado and Patrick Reichelt, and midfielders Stephan Schrock, Harry Foll, Dennis Chung, Sandro Reyes, Oli Bias, Kevin Ingreso, Oskari Kakkonen, Amin Nazari, Kenshiro Daniels, Mike Ott, and Iain Ramsay.
Completing the list are defenders Amani Aguinaldo, Justin Baas, Matthew Custodio, Mar Diano, Yrick Gallantes, Christian Rontini, Daisuke Sato, Martin Steuble, Jefferson Tabinas, and Jesper Nyholm, and goalkeepers Kevin Ray Hansen, Bernd Schipmann, and Quincy Kammeraad.
Marañon recently turned into a Filipino citizen after receiving naturalization last July but it was only last month that the star striker of United City was able to obtain a Philippine passport.
The Azkals will see action on December 8 where they are up against host Singapore, followed by the match against Timor Leste on December 11.
Then the Philippine representatives will face the remaining countries in their group clash namely, Thailand on December 14, and Myanmar on December 18.
