MATTHEW WRIGHT COMES THROUGH IN CLUTCH IN PHOENIX WIN OVER TNT
Matthew Wright delivered the game-winning basket in the final seconds of the game as Phoenix Super LPG escaped with a 93-92 win over TNT in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Wright nailed an uncontested layup with 1.3 ticks left that saw the ball off from Jayson Castro as the Fuel Masters reclaimed the lead after the Tropang Giga went up by nine midway in the fourth.
Jason Perkins, who also hit a tough layup over Rosario that cut their deficit to 91-92 with under 30 seconds remaining, saved the Fuel Masters from the jaws of defeat as he blocked the potential game-winning shot of TNT stretch cager Troy Rosario as time expired.
Wright led all scorers with a double-double, finishing with 27 points and 10 assists while Perkins, drilled 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and one block.
RJ Jazul backstopped Wright in scoring with 16 points and five rebounds off the bench, while RJ new import Dominique Sutton added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Phoenix triumph spoiled the heroics of TNT ace Mikey Williams, who scored 13 of his team-high 22 points in the final salvo.
Gab Banal ended with 18 points, five assists, and four rebounds off the bench for TNT, while import Aaron Fuller finished with a monster double-double of 11 points and 23 rebounds in the loss.
The Fuel Masters improved their slate to 4-2, while TNT fell to their second straight loss at 2-4.
