‘HINDI PA NAMIN ALAM KUNG KAILAN,’ SAYS UICHICO ON GILAS TRAINING RESUMPTION

Despite the recent news of the Philippines is one of the hosts of the final qualifier for the FIBA Asia Cup, the Gilas Pilipinas pool could not resume training just yet.

According to Gilas Pilipinas coach Jong Uichico, they are still waiting for the orders from Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) on when the pool can resume their training camp.

The national team bubble training at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna was put on hold last two weeks ago because of the imposition of the government of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in NCR Plus which included Metro Manila and provinces of Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, and Cavite.

Gilas pool composed of cadets and PBA special draftees was in its third week in the bubble when the camp broke.

Even with the training progressing well, Uichico said that they need to follow orders of needing to suspend the training bubble.

The government has approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) of reducing the quarantine classification level to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) to the NCR Plus until the end of April.

However, group practices and training are still not allowed as per the Joint Administrative Order created by the tripartite body composed of the Department of Health, Games and Amusements Board, and Philippine Sports Commission.

“On when we will come back, hindi pa namin alam kung kailan,” said Uichico.

Sumusunod lang naman tayo sa agos. Wait-and-see lang kami. Handa-handa lang,” he added.
