GUARDS MENDOZA, ESPAÑOLA DECLARES FOR PBA ROOKIE DRAFT
More guards are jumping into the pro league with Jed Mendoza and JJ Espanola adding to the list as they apply for PBA Rookie Draft.
Mendoza played with Jose Rizal University where he averaged 15.8 points on a 41-percent shooting, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in his final year with the Bombers back in NCAA Season 94.
The 6-foot guard suited up for Marinerong Pilipino in the PBA D-League where he chipped in 6.4 points on a 42-percent clip, alongside 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in seven games.
He played his lone UAAP year with the University of the East during Season 82 scoring 4.5 points on 41-percent shooting, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 16 minutes of play.
Also entering the draft is the 22-year old Espanola who suited up for the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
During his last year in UAAP Season 81, he only suited for three games logging in four minutes of playing time.
As the 6-foot guard joined Marikina Shoemasters in Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, he progressed ahead of the field averaging 6.3 points on 32-percent shooting, 2.5 assists, and 1.7 rebounds during his 28 games during the Lakan Cup.
The PBA Rookie Draft 2021 will be held online, with TV coverage due to the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Seraj Elmejrab of Lyceum and Terrence Tumalip from Technological Institute of the Philippines are among the other players who submitted their names this week for the draft.
