FIL-AM KALEI MAU WILL JOIN PH TEAM IN AVC
The Filipino American Kalei Mau committed to the national volleyball team for the upcoming 2021 AVC Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship in Thailand.
Mau confirmed the new development through his story on Instagram, but will go home first in Hawaii and will fly directly to Thailand.
“I’m gonna be home (in Hawaii) for the month and then I’m going to be training and I’m going to Thailand to join the national team of the Philippines to play in the AVC. Let’s go! Sambansa!” said Mau.
The 26-year old spiker joining the team will make her debut in the AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship under the flagship of the Philippines.
Mau is set to complete the 24-pool man team with veterans Rhea Dimaculangan, Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Ria Meneses, Mylene Paat, Jema Galanza, MJ Phillips, Deanna Wong, Kat Tolentino, Dell Palomata, and Iris Tolenada. And the young cagers, Imee Hernandez, Ivy Lacsina, Kamille Cal, Mhicaela Belen, Eya Laure, Jennifer Nierva, Faith Nisperos, and Bernadette Pepito.
Also joining the squad are Mau’s fellow teammates Majoy Baron, Kim Dy, Dawn Macandili, Aby Marano, and Tin Tiamzon.
Meanwhile, both men’s and women’s national teams are currently in Lipa, Batangas for training and have also cleared tests with all members testing negative.
“We are continuing the [programs of the] sport; this is our commitment as a federation,” said Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon “Tats” Suzara.
“The sport should not stop. For as long as we take necessary precautions and observe safety protocols, [we should go on].”
