It was the able duo of Amet Bituin and Jhon Rey Dongon who spearheaded the Baby Tamaraws’ mighty comeback from a 9-13 deficit.

It was the UE Junior Warriors’ first debacle in five games, sliding in the process into a tie for the lead with the gritty FEU-Diliman side at 4-1 together with the University of Santo Tomas.

For a month, defeat stared UST in the eyes but the Espana-based baby spikers weathered a two-set deficit and turned the tables on titleholder Nazareth School of National University, 27-29, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-13.

The Bullpups are now 1-1 in five-setter matches and dropped to 3-2 overall in the fourth spot.

While the rest struggled in overcoming their assignments, Adamson made short work of Ateneo, 25-10, 25-12, 25-9, to stay within distance of NSNU with a 3-2 record in fifth place.

The Blue Eagles ended their first-round stint with a 1-5 record.
