Obiena’s clearance on the 5.80 meters after three attempts earned him his medal and marked his new season-high record.

Although being tied with Ben Broeders, the Belgian vaulter cleared the bar with only two attempts bagging his silver medal finish.

Topping the league was Sweden’s Armand Duplantis clearing 6.15 meters.

The 24-year-old was the first Filipino to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics after clearing 5.81 meters during the Pole Vaulting Athletics Meet at Piazza Chiara, Italy last September 2019. He surpassed the Olympics requirement of 5.80 meters standard for the men’s pole vault.

Obiena has a total of one gold, two silvers, and three bronzes out of his eight competitions this season that started last month.

The Olympics-bound vaulter will be competing next at Doha Diamond League on September 24.
