EALA SOARS TO NO. 75 IN WORLD RANKINGS AFTER HISTORIC MIAMI OPEN RUN

1 April 2025

FILIPINA tennis star Alex Eala has soared to No. 75 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, a massive jump from No. 140, following her sensational semifinal finish at the 2025 Miami Open.

Eala, a wild card entry, stunned three Grand Slam champions en route to the Final Four before bowing out in a hard-fought three-set battle against World No. 4 Jessica Pegula.

“This tournament has opened doors to new opportunities, but with them come new challenges. The real work starts now,” Eala shared on Instagram.

Her breakthrough run secured her a spot in all four Grand Slam main draws this season.

Entering the tournament via wild card, the 19-year-old defeated USA’s Katie Volynets in the Round of 128, and world no.25 Katie Volynets in the Round of 64.

She then went on to slay Grand Slam champs, former French Open champ Jelena Ostapenko, reigning Australian Open champ Madison Keys, and world no. 2 Iga Swiatek in the following rounds. This allowed the Filipina star to reach the semis, also a breakthrough for the Philippines.

Eala’s rapid rise signals her growing presence on the world stage, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
