CHOCO MUCHO ESCAPES BLACK MAMBA-ARMY IN A THREE-SET MATCH
Choco Mucho pulled off a 3-0 set win yesterday against Black Mamba-Army in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference at Paco Arena.
Kat Tolentino dropped 11 points off 10 attacks and one block in just two sets to give a 25-13, 25-11, 25-23 win for Choco Mucho.
“The tournament is very short so every game is a must win,” said coach Oliver Almadro.
“We’ll take it one game at a time. Habang tumatagal ang tournament, mas humihirap ang labanan. Kailangan habang tumatagal, patindi ng patindi ang focus at pa-deep ng pa-deep yung character,” he added.
The Flying Titans easily controlled the first two sets but almost went to a fourth set as Lady Troopers retaliated in the third set with their continued attacks.
Despite Army taking the lead a few times during the nail-biter set, Deanna Wong was able to read the play of Black Mamba where no one is at the end of the court and sneaked in her match point backline toss, 25-23.
Thanks to Wong’s 22 excellent sets, Tolentino was able to give powerful attacks topped with Ponggay Gaston’s eight marks followed by Caitlyn Viray with seven points.
“We’re just looking out for our lapses [from] last year, and hopefully, we fill in the right pieces in our puzzle,” said coach Almadro.
“It boils down to character and passion, and hopefully, this turns into great things in the eliminations, hopefully semis, and finals.”
Choco Mucho’s next game is on Sunday, facing the defending champs Chery Tiggo Crossovers.
