BOSTON CELTICS SOLD FOR RECORD $6.1B

22 March 2025

Istanbul – A consortium led by American businessman Bill Chisholm has reached an agreement to purchase the NBA team Boston Celtics for a record USD 6.1 billion, marking the most expensive team sale in North American sports history, according to US media reports.

The Celtics, previously acquired by the Grousbeck family for USD 360 million in 2002, have now changed ownership after 23 years in a landmark deal.

As the most successful team in NBA history with 18 championships, the Celtics currently feature stars such as Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford.

The reigning champions hold a 50-19 record this season, ranking second in the Eastern Conference.

Previously, the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL) were sold for USD 6.05 billion, while another NBA team, the Phoenix Suns, changed hands for USD 4 billion. (Anadolu)
