The exciting semifinal clash took place at the Cuneta Astrodome on Saturday where the second-seeded Blazers capitalized on their twice-to-beat advantage to dethrone the third-seeded Red Lions.
Saint Benilde, coming into the game with a one-game advantage after finishing second in the elimination round, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.
The Blazers played with intensity and precision, controlling the tempo throughout the match. After a strong first quarter performance, ending with a 25-14 lead, the Blazers’ dominance only grew as the game progressed.
The Red Lions, despite their best efforts, were unable to match Saint Benilde’s firepower. The Blazers went on an impressive scoring run in the second half, building a commanding 30-point lead, 70-40, with just under six minutes remaining in the game.
This insurmountable lead ensured that San Beda could not mount a comeback, and Saint Benilde cruised to a comfortable win, 79-63, to advance to the Finals.
Tony Ynot was the standout player for Saint Benilde, contributing a well-rounded performance with 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds.
His efficient shooting and playmaking were pivotal in the Blazers’ offensive attack. But it wasn’t just Ynot who made a mark; Saint Benilde’s balanced team effort ensured they kept their opponents at bay for the entire game.
With solid defense, sharp shooting, and strong leadership, the Blazers demonstrated their readiness for the upcoming Finals.
Looking ahead, Saint Benilde will face the top-seeded Mapúa Cardinals in the championship series.
The Cardinals also advanced after defeating the fourth-seeded Lyceum Pirates, 89-79, in the other semifinal match.
This sets the stage for an exciting Finals showdown, where the Blazers will look to claim their first-ever NCAA men’s basketball title, while the Cardinals will aim to secure their 20th championship.
