TESDA OPENS REGIONAL SKILLS COMPETITION IN DAVAO
THE TECHNICAL Education and Skills Development Authority in Davao Region kicked off its Regional Skills Competition last September 6.
TESDA Deputy Director General Aniceto Bertiz III said the skills competitions being conducted across the country are designed to create “an avenue where our tech-voc trainees and graduates can unravel their skills and showcase their expertise in various trade areas.”
“You are very blessed to be here because it means that you are one of the chosen few, the crème de la crème in your region,” he said in his speech.
TESDA conducts the Regional Skills Competition annually. This year, in Region XI, 42 competitors participated in 22 skill areas. These competitors are bets from 23 public and private tech-voc institutions in Davao Del Norte, Davao Del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental and Davao City.
The skill areas include Automobile Technology, Bakery, Beauty Therapy, Carpentry, Cooking, Electrical Installation, Fashion Technology, Floristry, Graphic Design Technology, Hairdressing, Hotel Reception, Information Network Cabling, IT Software Solution for Business, Prototype Modelling, Mechatronics, Patisserie and Confectionary, Plumbing and Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Restaurant Services, Wall and Floor Tiling, Web Technologies and Welding.
The top performers of the Regional Skills Competition will meet each other in their respective skill areas in the National Skills Competition this November. The top winners at the national level usually represent the country in various international competitions, such as WorldSkills and ASEAN Skills Competition.
“We are hopeful that the winners of the Regional Skills Competition will be able to represent Davao Region in the upcoming National Skills Competition. May this year’s Regional Skills Competition inspire you to keep developing your skills and reach your full potential as TESDA graduates,” Bertiz said.
