IP COMMUNITY IN COMPOSTELA DONATES LAND FOR SCHOOL BUILDING
THE INDIGENOUS Peoples community in Compostela, Davao de Oro donated land to the local government to be used for the construction of a school building.
“I thank the (indigenous community) who donated this two-hectare land. According to the DepEd (Department of Education), if we have a five-hectare land, we will have a good school [more classrooms] already. We will look into that and will request a budget from the national government,” Davao de Oro Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said.
Uy pledged to fast-track the construction of the building.
The construction of the school building was part of the provincial government’s “Bayanihan sa Paaralan” program in Sitio Cambudlot, Barangay San Miguel.
The construction began after the demolition of the Salugpongan Ta’ Tanu Igkanogon Community Learning Center Inc.
The old STTICLCI was demolished after the IP community filed a resolution in April last year calling for the establishment of a DepEd-run school in the region, fearing that the old STTICLCI was teaching children how to rebel against the government.
