GORDON CONDEMNS KILLING OF SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN ALBAY

/ 15 October 2022

PHILIPPINE Red Cross Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon denounced the killing of a school principal in Albay province who was shot to death inside her house on October 12.

“We are deeply outraged by the dastardly murder of Dr. Beverly Cabaltera, an educator, the principal of Pio Duran National High School in Albay,” Gordon said in a statement.

Cabaltera was a Red Cross volunteer.

On October 12, the 53-year-old educator was found by her son on the floor, unconscious. The police showed CCTV footage of two men breaking and entering their residence.

“She was a youth adviser for the Red Cross who has led efforts into the nearby islands during disasters, a mother of three, wife of a policeman, and a cherished teacher,” Gordon said.

“We offer our deepest condolences to her bereaved family and strongly condemn the two unidentified perpetrators. We also call upon the local and regional law enforcers to swiftly identify and punish these offenders,” he added.
