THE DEPARTMENT of Education mourned the death of a teacher who was stabbed by a former student in Basey town in Samar on Monday, October 3.

Basey National High School Science teacher George Lauron, 32, succumbed to a stab wound on his chest.

The suspect, 19, immediately surrendered to the authorities.

“DepEd Samar sympathizes with the family of the teacher. As soon as the office was apprised, psychological first aid was provided to the teachers, students, and non-teaching personnel of the school,” the department said in a statement.

“The Office will continue to coordinate closely with the local authorities for the speedy resolution of the cases,” it added.

Initial investigation showed that the suspect and the victim were drinking early morning at the victim’s boarding house when the two had a heated argument, prompting the suspect to stab his former teacher.
