SOLON PRODS NEW SENATE LEADERSHIP TO REJECT REVIVAL OF MANDATORY ROTC
ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro called on the new Senate leadership to junk the bill on Mandatory Reserve Officers Training Corps for tertiary level.
Castro made the call as she welcomed the election of Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero as Senate President.
“We hope that the Senate will now focus on rejecting fascist moves such as the mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and junking the problematic Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program,” Castro said.
“We welcome the change in leadership in the Senate and hope that this development will pave the way for a more definitive stand against Charter change and other anti-people measures,” she added.
Castro said the senators must be more proactive in addressing the pressing concerns of our people, such as the need for a more comprehensive and sustainable transportation system, and to reject policies that only serve the interests of a few.
Escudero earlier said he is likely to vote against the revival of the mandatory ROTC program, saying he believes it will not instill patriotism among students.
However, Escudero stressed that he is just one vote in the Senate and the voice of majority will always win.
