SOLARIZING SCHOOLS SHOULD BE THE ADMINISTRATION’S TOP PRIORITY – YOUTH GROUP
A YOUTH environmental group stressed that the Marcos administration should prioritize solarizing schools and shift to renewable energy to ensure that the schools and communities are more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
The group made the statement after Typhoon Carina displaced students.
In his third State of the Nation Address last July, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said in his speech that, “solar-powered electricity must now be standard features in our schools and in our classrooms.”
“The dismal performance of the opening of classes only proves how incoherent our national policies are,” SAVE Ph Lead Convenor Zyoen Garcia said.
“While we laud President Marcos’ recognition of the need to power our schools with renewable energy, he must practice what he preaches,” Garcia added.
According to the Department of Education, 1,063 schools nationwide were unable to open classes after being hit by typhoon Carina.
