SENATORS NOT KEEN ON BANNING FRATERNITIES IN SCHOOLS
THREE senators are not keen on banning all fraternities and sororities in universities and colleges as they believe that not all groups break the law.
Senator JV Ejercito said that fraternities have benefits but those conducting hazing must be blacklisted.
“Those fraternities that will be involved in hazing, probably ‘yun ‘yung mga dapat i-blacklist na, talagang hindi na payagan. ‘Wag nang bigyan ng recognition in schools or in any other organizations,” he said in an interview at the Senate.
Meanwhile, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said that fraternities should police their ranks.
“I am not for banning fraternities but siguro ‘yung fraternities themselves should police their ranks and the school administration is very crucial. The police cannot be around everywhere,” he said.
Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, meanwhile, believes that not all fraternities and sororities are involved in hazing.
“Well, not all fraternities and sororities are bad. Maybe they should blacklist those who are committing these crimes of hazing and physical abuse on their students. Pero there are good fraternities and sororities,” Zubiri said.
“Sa tingin ko ‘yung mga nag-aabuso, ‘yung bad record, meron talaga nakikita na pasaway na talagang ayaw tumigil sa paggugulpi at pagtotorture dito sa mga estudyante, mga kapatid nila na gustong sumama sa organisasyon na ito. Sa ganun dapat sila po ay managot sa proper authorities,” he added.
