THREE senators expressed belief that Senator Juan Edgardo Angara is highly qualified for the position of Department of Education Secretary following the resignation of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Senate President Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero said Angara is an excellent choice for the position.

“I was asked by some people close to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who I thought would be a good replacement for VP Sara at DepEd and the only person I thought of and mentioned was Sen. Angara,” Escudero said.

“I don’t know if it reached the President,” he added.

For his part, Senator JV Ejercito stressed that Angara would be a good choice for DepEd Secretary and he is hoping that he will be considered.

But when asked if Angara would accept it, Ejercito said: “I am not sure but it would be a challenge that he might accept.”

Meanwhile, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic Education, said he has worked closely with Angara in the Congressional Commission on Education or EDCOM 2 and believed that he is a good choice for the position.

“Alam niya ‘yung problema, alam niya ‘yung solution. Even before pa, ang adbokasiya niya ay nasa education. Kaya kung makikita natin nung Chairman siya ng Finance Committee, ang laki ng binuhos niya sa education,” Gatchalian said.
