SENATOR REITERATES CALL FOR HIGHER TEACHING SUPPLIES ALLOWANCE
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday batted for the grant of a bigger supplies allowance for teachers to provide them some relief from the expenses related to distance learning.
Gatchalian made the push as the Department of Education plans to continue home-based learning even when the pandemic is over.
The senator is co-author and co-sponsor of Senate Bill 1092 or the Teaching Supplies Allowance Act of 2020.
Under the measure, teachers will receive a supplies allowance of P10,000 starting school year 2024-2025.
For school year 2021-2022 and 2022-2023, each teacher will receive supplies allowance worth P5,000 and P7,500 for school year 2023-2024.
The allowance is for the purchase of supplies and materials used for the implementation of various learning modalities.
The Senate approved the measure on third reading last November.
