SENATOR PUSHES FOR NEW SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS IN CAGAYAN

/ 15 April 2026

SENATOR Imee Marcos is advocating for the establishment of a Philippine Science High School (PSHS) campus in Iguig, Cagayan.

In Senate Bill No. 1752, Marcos emphasized that the Philippine Science High School System plays a crucial role in developing academically gifted students, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

However, she noted that access to science-oriented secondary education remains limited in several regions due to the concentration of existing campuses, as well as constraints in facilities and manpower.

At present, the Cagayan Valley Region is served by only one PSHS campus.

The senator explained that the steady increase in applicants from Cagayan and nearby provinces has placed significant pressure on existing resources, limiting opportunities for many qualified students seeking admission.

The bill aims to address this gap by establishing a new PSHS campus in the municipality of Iguig.

The proposed campus is expected to decentralize access to specialized science education, expand opportunities for students, and contribute to the long-term advancement of science and technology in the country. It also seeks to support the development of a skilled and innovation-driven youth sector in Northern Luzon.
