SENATOR ALARMED OVER ANOTHER STABBING INCIDENT AMONG STUDENTS
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday (13 Apr 2025) expressed alarm over another stabbing incident involving high school students.
Two Grade 8 students were reportedly fatally stabbed by three fellow students outside their school in Las Piñas, prompting widespread concern and condemnation from both government officials and the public.
The tragic incident underscores growing fears over youth violence in schools and communities across the country.
Gatchalian said the incident should serve as a warning that such acts of violence reflect a deeper crisis among Filipino youth.
“When violence becomes the language of our youth, we must confront the hard truth: we are failing in our duty to raise a generation grounded in discipline and respect,” Gatchalian said.
“Kung ganito na ang mga kabataan, dapat tayong mangamba sa kinabukasang hinuhubog natin,” he added.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the killings, and the suspects—also students—are now in custody. The motive behind the attack has yet to be confirmed.
Gatchalian emphasized the need for swift justice, while also calling for long-term solutions to address the root causes of violence among students.
He urged the full implementation of the Good Manners and Right Conduct and Values Education Act in schools, and called on local government units to roll out the Parent Effectiveness Service Program to equip parents with the tools needed to raise responsible and respectful children.
“We cannot wait for more student deaths before we act. Our response must be both immediate and systemic,” he said.
