PARTYLIST GROUP PRESSES COMELEC: EXTEND REGISTRATION OF VOTERS
ANAKPAWIS Party-list again pressed the Commission on Elections to extend the registration of voters that will end on September 30.
Former Rep. Ariel Casilao said young people, especially new voters, should be given time to register.
“The youth wants to put their future in their hands. Let them register and vote. Marami pang kabataan ang nais makapagparehistro para makaboto sa unang pagkakataon sa May 2022,” Casilao said.
“We humbly ask the Comelec to consider extending the registration period affected by several lockdowns and quarantines. Let us give a chance to the new young voters, especially in provinces, ” he added.
The Senate earlier passed Resolution No. 851 urging the poll body to extend the registration to October 31, 2021.
However, the commission turned down calls to extend the registration of voters saying doing so will derail the schedule of the Comelec.
The poll body said that there are 62 million registered voters, of which five million are new voters.
