ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro hopes that their recommendation on the criteria for the next Department of Education chief will be considered, adding that the next appointee should not be corrupt.

“Inaasahan natin, itong mga recommendation namin para doon sa mga criteria, sana ‘no at least ma-consider,” Castro said in a radio interview.

Among those criteria, the lawmaker said that the next DepEd Secretary should not be corrupt and should be from the education sector.

“Unang-una dapat ay hindi korap. Pangalawa, as much as possible galing siya sa education sector at mayroong malawak na kaalaman at may bibit na solusyon para doon sa ating education crisis,” Castro said.

On Saturday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that he needs more time to choose the next DepEd chief.

“It turns out, it’s harder than I thought because we have to get it right. So I’m giving myself more time,” the President said.

Before his recent statement, Marcos said he would announce the appointment of the next DepEd chief by the end of June.
