/ 27 July 2024

BAGONG Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera is urging local authorities to prioritize the needs of children, as well as their mothers staying in evacuation centers following the onslaught of Typhoon Carina.

The solon stressed that these vulnerable groups often face unique challenges, including specific medical and nutritional needs.

“We need to ensure that evacuation centers are equipped to provide proper healthcare services, including prenatal and postnatal care for women and immunizations and pediatric care for children. Their well-being must be a priority,” Herrera said.

The lawmaker also stressed the need for long-term measures to enhance the country’s disaster preparedness and resilience.

“We must pass laws that will bolster our ability to respond to and recover from natural disasters. We must ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens,” she added.

At the same time, Herrera commended the tireless efforts of first responders, volunteers, and local officials who have been working around the clock to assist those affected.

“Their dedication and bravery in the face of adversity are truly commendable. We owe them our deepest gratitude and unwavering support,” she said.
